I Never Expected Her to Make the First Move
The evening started like any other.
I was sitting across from Sarah at a small café near the river. We had been friends for almost a year, sharing countless conversations, jokes, and late-night messages. She was easy to talk to, and being around her always felt natural. Still, I had never imagined there could be anything more between us.
As the sun began to set, the golden light reflected across the water, painting everything in warm colors. We talked about our dreams, our fears, and the strange twists life often takes. For a moment, the world around us seemed to disappear.
When we left the café, we decided to take a walk along the riverbank. The cool evening breeze carried the scent of fresh rain, and the city lights slowly came alive behind us.
There was a comfortable silence between us.
Then something unexpected happened.
Sarah stopped walking.
I turned to ask if everything was okay, but before I could say a word, she looked directly into my eyes. There was a confidence in her expression that I had never seen before.
“You know,” she said softly, “I’ve wanted to tell you something for a long time.”
My heart immediately started racing.
“What is it?” I asked.
She smiled.
Instead of answering right away, she stepped a little closer.
For a second, I couldn’t think of anything to say.
Then she laughed nervously and admitted that she had liked me for months.
I was completely shocked.
Not because I didn’t feel the same way, but because I never expected her to be the one who said it first.
The tension disappeared instantly as we both laughed at how long we had hidden our feelings.
That night, under the glow of the city lights, our friendship became something more.
And sometimes, the best moments in life arrive when you least expect them.
