It wasn’t planned. It never is.
We were just sitting too close, sharing the kind of silence that only happens when words aren’t needed. Your shoulder brushed mine, and neither of us moved away. Instead, we stayed there… letting the moment stretch longer than it should have.
“Why does this feel different tonight?” you asked softly.
I didn’t answer, because I felt it too.
There was something in the air—warm, heavy, impossible to ignore. When I turned to look at you, I found your eyes already on me. Not casually. Not playfully. But deeply… like you were searching for something you were finally ready to find.
My breath slowed as you shifted closer.
Your hand reached for mine, hesitant at first, like you were giving me time to pull away. But I didn’t. My fingers intertwined with yours naturally, like they had always belonged there.
That’s when everything changed.
You pulled me into your arms, gently but with a certainty that made my heart skip. I melted into you without thinking, my head resting against your shoulder as your warmth wrapped around me.
It felt safe.
Too safe.
Like every wall I had built suddenly meant nothing.
“I could stay like this forever,” I whispered, barely audible.
Your arms tightened slightly, holding me closer, as if you felt the same. My heartbeat slowed, matching the calm rhythm of yours. In that moment, nothing outside mattered—not the world, not the rules, not the confusion of what this meant.
All I knew was how it felt.
Being held by you didn’t feel wrong.
It felt like home.
And for the first time, I didn’t want to leave.
