We Broke Every Rule Before Sunrise Together

The city lights blurred outside the apartment window as rain tapped softly against the glass. Emma stood near the balcony, her oversized hoodie slipping slightly from one shoulder while the midnight wind played with her hair. Jake watched her quietly, unable to look away.

“You still thinking about leaving?” he asked.

She turned slowly, biting her lip with that dangerous smile he could never resist. “Maybe I was waiting for a reason to stay.”

The tension between them had been building for months — stolen glances, late-night calls, conversations that lasted until sunrise. But tonight felt different. Warmer. Closer. Like every unspoken feeling had finally reached its limit.

Jake stepped toward her carefully. “Emma… if we do this, everything changes.”

She moved closer until only inches remained between them. “Maybe I’m tired of pretending we don’t want it.”

The room fell silent except for the storm outside. His heartbeat felt louder than the thunder. Then she reached for his hand, intertwining her fingers with his.

That single touch shattered every rule they had promised to follow.

They laughed softly between nervous breaths, sitting on the floor beside the couch while sharing secrets they had hidden for far too long. Old fears disappeared. Every wall between them slowly faded away.

Hours passed in a blur of teasing smiles, lingering looks, and moments neither of them wanted to end. The world outside no longer mattered. It was just them, the rain, and the feeling that maybe some mistakes were worth making.

As the first sunlight slipped through the curtains, Emma rested her head against his shoulder and whispered, “Looks like we broke every rule before sunrise.”

Jake smiled, pulling her closer. “Yeah… and I don’t regret a single one.”
