The room was filled with noise, laughter, and people pretending to be happy. But none of it reached her. She stood there, feeling out of place, her heart quietly searching for something real.
Then she saw him.
Across the room, his eyes found hers—and suddenly, everything else faded. Without thinking, she moved toward him, drawn by a feeling she couldn’t explain. The moment she reached him, he didn’t ask anything, didn’t say much. He simply opened his arms.
And she stepped in.
The world outside disappeared instantly.
His arms wrapped around her, firm yet gentle, like he knew exactly how much she needed this. Her breath slowed, her mind softened, and for the first time that night, she felt alive. Safe. Wanted.
“You disappeared,” he murmured near her ear.
“I was lost,” she replied quietly, her fingers tightening slightly against him.
He pulled her closer, as if afraid to let go. “Then stay here.”
She smiled, resting her head against his chest, listening to the steady rhythm of his heartbeat. It grounded her, pulled her out of the chaos she had been drowning in.
There was something bold about the way he held her—like he wasn’t afraid of closeness, like he didn’t hide what he felt. And she found herself melting into that confidence, into that warmth.
“Why does this feel so right?” she whispered.
“Because it is,” he answered simply.
And in that moment, she didn’t question it.
Because in his arms, she wasn’t escaping anymore—
She was finally home.
